Tree Planting

From November through March, we routinely host planting events at Woodlands Preserve.

Tree Planting Volunteers meet at the Daybrook Pavillion located at the TrailHead before hiking to the planting area (~½ mile). This role involves using shovels or dibbles to plant saplings and trees in 1-3 gallon pots.

When planting season is over, there is still plenty to be done at Woodlands Preserve. 

Maintain Planting Plots

From April through October, Woodlands Conservancy needs volunteers to help maintain the planting plots of newly planted trees.  Maintenance involves work like: removing weeds and vines from on and around the saplings, staking fallen trees, and watering trees. We often host events for maintenance work, but this work can also be done with a small group at any time. 

Prepare Planting Plots

Starting in October, Woodlands Conservancy needs volunteers to help prepare planting plots for the upcoming planting season. Preparing Planting Plots involves hiking to the planting site, and helping to clearing debris, including fallen trees, and other overgrowth. These opportunities often occur on Saturdays and various weekdays. 

Trail Maintenance

Throughout the year, we need volunteers to help maintain the 11 miles of hiking and equestrian trails located at Woodlands Preserve.

Maintaining the trails can involve clearing weeds, overgrowth and fallen trees from the trail, collecting litter, and occasionally helping to lay mulch or gravel.

During the week, Volunteers can support our Field Biologist in maintaining the trails. Trail maintenance can also be done with a small group at anytime.

Team Leader

Team Leaders help to support volunteers during planting and maintenance events by demonstrating proper planting and maintenance techniques. This role is best suited for folks who’ve attended at least one planting or maintenance event in the past. This position requires good communication and organizational skills and not necessarily physical strength.

Office Support

Do you have physical limitations that prevent you from participating in planting and maintenance work, but you still want to volunteer with Woodlands Conservancy?

We have opportunities in the office (or remotely) for volunteers to help with various outreach, marketing, fundraising, and other administrative duties.
