Young Professionals Group Palmetto Pals Kick-Off Party

Join us for the Kick-Off Party for Woodland Conservancy’s new Young Professionals Group – Palmetto Pals! Palmetto Pals will bring together a group of community-driven young professionals who want to meet new people and support Woodlands Conservancy’s mission to protect and preserve our wetland forests. Come learn more about our group, what we will accomplish and future events all while socializing and having fun at Port Orleans Brewing
Company.

We’ll provide games, Port Orleans Brewing Company will provide appetizers, and anyone who joins us as a member will enjoy a complimentary beer thanks to Port Orleans Brewing Company!

Extra Tree Planting – volunteers needed!

When:    Thursday April 5th, 10am -12pm

Location: Woodlands Trail, 449 F. Edward Herbert Blvd., Belle Chasse.

Volunteers are needed to remove invasive vegetation and plant native trees.  We have a few seedlings left that have to be planted before the warmer weather.  Help us improve wildlife habitat, maintain an important hurricane buffer, and make Woodlands Trail an even more beautiful place to visit!

Pollinator Gardening Workshop

When:    Saturday, April 21st, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Location: Woodlands Trail, 449 F. Edward Hebert Blvd., Belle Chasse.

Come out to the Woodlands Trail for a family-friendly, hands-on gardening experience! We will talk about the importance of promoting native flowers in your garden and how to make your garden more healthy, beautiful, and pollinator-friendly. At the workshop, you will become familiar with native Louisiana plants and pollinators in our own garden and also get the resources to start your own pollinator garden at home.

Please come prepared with close-toed shoes, water, and sunscreen as needed. Gloves, shovels, and other gardening supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you would like.

Admission: $10, $5 for Woodlands Conservancy Members

Earth Day Clean-up Hike

When:    Sunday, April 22nd, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Location: Woodlands Trail, 449 F. Edward Hebert Blvd., Belle Chasse.

Celebrate Earth day by volunteering to help us clean up the trail!  We will be combining our clean-up efforts with a short guided hike to learn about bottomland forests as we pick up litter and pull invasive plants.  The hike will be approximately 1 mile.  Come prepared with closed toe shoes, water and sunscreen.  Gloves will be provided.

When: Saturday May 19, 9:00am-5:00pm

Location: Woodlands Trail

If you want to learn to recognize many of the common plants of the coastal Gulf South, the names of those plants, and how to identify other plants, this is the workshop for you. The workshop will be all fieldtrips, where you can see the plants in their natural environment. You will be given BRF’s (Best Recognizing Features) for each plant plus other facts like use, edibility etc. You are encouraged to photograph, take notes, ask questions, and take specimens with you. A numbered checklist will be provided to each participant. During the one day workshop, you will be exposed to more than 75 species of wildflowers, grasses, ferns, trees, shrubs, and vines.
